How to Get Gutsy...

This brief article is helpful ... but the link to the personality MBTI test online is going to be a good exercise in self-realization you won't want to miss.
How to Get Gutsy...
“If you wanna run with the big dogs, you’ve gotta get off the porch.” This was the sage advice given to me some years ago as I considered my first entrepreneurial venture. You’ve got to take risks. Be gutsy. All of which led me to wonder what guts really is. And, more importantly, if you don’t have it, can you get it? how_to_get_gutsy.png

What is “gutsyness?”

According to the American Heritage Dictionary, Guts (in our context) is…
  1. Courage; fortitude.
  2. Nerve; audacity.
To me, “guts” translates to a willingness and ability to embrace risk. What kind of risk?
  • Risk of trying and failing
  • Risk of exposing your true-self and being judged
  • Risk of losing status, time and money
  • Risk of injury or death, and
  • Risk of…succeeding at whatever it is you are attempting
Looking at the above list, it’s pretty clear there are activities that require you to take risks that, addressed and embraced, are constructive and have the potential to add to your life. These would include turning a deep interest into a profession, introducing yourself to a potential mentor, client, partner or lover, writing a book or creating a painting for public display.
Other activities, though, are substantially more likely to require risks that are likely to take away from the quality of your life. Those would be actions that place you in peril. And, while, occasionally justified by extreme circumstances, my focus is more on the willingness to take the day-to-day risks with the potential to enhance your life.

Guts and genes

Who hasn’t been in a scenario where you wished you had the guts to do something, but just couldn’t get it together to try? We tend to blame ourselves for “wimping out,” but interestingly enough, a solid chunk of gutsyness is not learned or conditioned, it’s genetic.
According to Jungian theory, we all have innate personality preferences or types. If you have kids or know anyone with kids, this is readily apparent. Two kids from the same parents literally come out of the womb with radically different personalities, temperaments and preferences.
Seeking to create a usable tool to identify genetic personality preferences some 60-years ago, Katharine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers created their Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI®). This tool allows you to determine your innate personality preferences. Indeed, you can even take variations of the MBTI® test online today. Give it a shot, it’ll only take 10 minutes. Then, see how close the results come to revealing your deep, dark secret personality traits.
I was blown away when I took mine. Part of my profile reveals a strong tendency toward introversion, which, for those who have known me for years, is not surprising. But, for those who know me only through business, it’s pretty shocking, since I make my living largely in the public eye.
So, genetics plays a strong role in your preference to take the various risk involved in being gutsy. And, according to most, there’s not a whole lot we can do to change that. But, another chunk of gustiness is actually not inherited, but learned.

Guts and environment

our interactions, relationships and experiences as we go through life also play a major role in molding just how gutsy we are
While we arrive on this planet with a certain attitudes about risk, our interactions, relationships and experiences as we go through life also play a major role in molding just how gutsy we are. The more we risk stepping out of our genetic comfort zones, the more opportunities we have to “learn” about the benefits of being gutsier and then “choose” to take those same actions again in an attempt to get those same feelings that came from our adventure in gutsyland.
Which begs the question…
If you didn’t inherit the gutsy-gene, what can you do about it?
First, you’ve got to ask yourself, “if I’m not too gutsy, do I really need to change?” The short answer is, it depends. A certain aversion to the risk of injury or death is natural and good. It stops you from being reckless.
But, if you have an irrational fear of injury, death, judgment, failure or embarrassment or simply an aversion to risk that stops you from participating in the everyday joys of life, that needs attention. Similarly, a certain amount of caution in social situations is fine, but when it engenders a level of fear that stops you from doing things that would add genuine joy to your life, it’s time to do something about it.
Here’s a three-step approach that’s gone a long way toward moving me past my natural tendency toward introversion and contemplation to regularly taking fairly major risks, both personal and business.
  1. Visualize gutsy action and success. Twice a day, visualize engaging in the activity that would require guts and then succeeding wildly. Make it as vivid and detailed as possible. Use all of your senses. Over time, this really helps to alleviate the anxiety/fear that holds you back. Through repetition, you tend to desensitize your fears and anxieties, while simultaneously reinforcing your belief that, should you take a gutsy action, you will succeed.
  2. Take incremental action. Pick a situation that gives you the opportunity to confront one of your fear-inducers in a controlled, supported, incremental and gentle manner. For example, if you have a fear of speaking in front of people, commit to a small weekly gathering of friends and begin speaking up, rather than scheduling a 20-minute presentation in front of your entire company. Then, begin to commit to events/actions that will allow you to confront your fear in increasingly more exposed situations. This process lets you experience serial success, builds confidence and gets you “incrementally gutsy” over time.
  3. Rinse and repeat. The more-often you engage in this process and succeed, the more you’ll believe in your ability to succeed and the more willing you’ll become to step out of your box.

Call to all Christian believers - the most important 8 minute video you will ever watch?

Waste not another minute before seeing this chilling report. Click on it now…

http://newsyoucanbelieve.com/2009/05/02/demographics-that-threatens-our-way-of-life/

A Demographic Report That Threatens Our Way Of Life
This could be the Most important video you will ever watch!
This video is NOT conservative or liberal – NOT Democrat or Republican. It deals with a subject much more important than our politics. Why? It will become all too obvious.
And then check out this important reality check on our economy:

I recommend you bookmark the following link and check back daily to keep your eye on important developments in our society that are routinely hidden by the MSM (main stream media) from the general public

http://newsyoucanbelieve.com/category/glenn-beck/

It is becoming increasingly apparent that if we are not part of the solution we are inevitably part of the problem. Jesus said it well in Mat 12:30 : “He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.”

If we are to meaningfully pray “Thy Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven” and not participate in “let your light so shine among men that they may see your good works and give glory to your father in heaven” we can rightfully ask “if the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

Hosea wrote “My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge.” Most citizens are ignorant of many of the most important realities because of one reason. Those who are entrusted with the responsibility to be beacons of all the Abundant Life that Jesus wants for his children (salvation, wisdom, love, insight, discernment, prosperity, faith, hope, good works, etc.) have been asleep while pawns of the enemy have infiltrated the ranks of the immature and indolent.

By God’s grace, with the help of friends like you, a team of many friends are gearing up with me to soon begin an action-based informative radio program and website that will offer Godly strategies to fulfill the charge that the Lord put on my own life in 1973 from Isaiah 58:

[Is] not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
And [if] thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness [be] as the noonday:

More on this later. In the meantime please pray as Paul did for his brethren and as I pray for you:

“And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and [in] all judgment;
That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;
Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.” (Phil. 1:9-10)

So be it…

until next time...

Are You a Watchman on the Wall for Someone? Flu Vaccine Ingredients?

Let me ask you something. Are you the kind of person who will go out of their way to help someone you see who is in need of immediate assistance? If you have a solution to someone’s problem are you inclined to offer your insight to one who has expressed their need to you? Is your desire to prevent others from unnecessary suffering and hardship if your knowledge can lead them to make better choices and prevent their calamity?

If you knew that any of your friends and family were about to be deceived into making a decision that had disastrous, life-altering implications, would you try to steer them to a better way?

If you honestly don’t have a gut-level positive reaction to these questions then you will probably stop reading this and disregard the vital information below. But if you’re still reading, you could be responding to a personal ‘call’ to be someone’s “Watchman on the wall.”

If there is one thing in life that I’ve discovered to be my passion, it is to share with others the things that I have discovered to be life-changing for myself. Whether we’re talking about eternal spiritual matters or insights that can make a difference between sickness and health, poverty and abundance, or failure and success, I will not stand still when I am given the gift of insight and powerful information that is capable of preventing a lot of grief.

When I discovered the sobering warning of the prophet Ezekiel’s responsibility to warn the people of Israel in the Bible ( Ezekiel 33:6) when faced with approaching judgment and destruction I could not help but respond personally with a commitment to do what I could to be like a ‘sentry’ who is watching the horizon for approaching ‘storms’ that could threaten the security of the community. Perhaps that’s the appeal of jobs like forecasting weather. There is a joy of personal satisfaction when you can avert a disaster for someone by helping them make preparations ahead of time.

More than ever before in my lifetime, I am increasingly aware that there are many dangers in our world today that are cloaked in confusion and selfishly motivated deception. It’s not easy to wade through the research to find the truth, but finding the truth is absolutely essential if one is to stay in peace and flourish no matter what the conditions are like all around.

I’ll be posting many more timely and relevant insights for you in three major categories (physical preparations for health and wellness, personal discoveries to discern the truth in what’s truly important in life, and timeless principles that open the doors to successfully accomplishing the best of what we are created for. I’ll be posting these for now on my blog at www.dennispetersen.blogspot.com so you can reference the details as you need them. I trust you will gain much from what I’ve received from others and be a blessing to others yourself as you share with your friends.

For now… few things could be more timely and urgent than the current controversy about avoiding an epidemic of influenza through the use of vaccinations versus Biblical health principles of good hygiene and nutrition plus quarantine. I recommend that you print out the FACT SHEET at

http://www.childhoodshots.com/uploads/SwineFLuVaccineFactSheet.pdf

and circulate copies to your friends and family A.S.A.P. The first page of it appears below.

What is in the Flu Vaccine being promoted for everyone to inject into their bloodstream?

H1N1 Swine Flu Vaccine Facts to Consider

In order to make informed vaccine decisions, you must know what the

ingredients are in the vaccine. There are no long-term safety studies done

on any vaccines, including the flu vaccines. This new flu vaccine will be

released without adequate safety studies.

Common Flu Vaccine Ingredients include:

  • Egg protein, many are allergic to eggs
  • Formaldehyde- Formalyn (formalin) is a 37 percent solution of gaseous formaldehyde which includes methanol. (Used in vaccines as a tissue fixative) Formaldehyde solution (formalin) is considered a hazardous compound and it is vapor toxic.
  • Polysorbate 80 shown to cause infertility in mice
  • Sodium Chloride and Calcium Chloride
  • Monosodium Glutamate (MSG):C5H8NNaO4, a Stabilizer MSG - MSG intolerance: There have been numerous studies of allergies and/or sensitivities to MSG, attributed to the free glutamic acid component, which has been blamed for causing a wide variety of physical symptoms such as migraines, nausea, digestive upsets, drowsiness, heart palpitation, hair loss, asthma, anaphylactic shock, rapidly increasing diabetes, and many other complaints.
  • Potassium phosphate- a soluble salt which is used as a fertilizer, a food additive and a fungicide. It is a source of phosphorus and potassium. It is also a buffering agent.
  • Thimerosal- a form of mercury still found in some multi-vile vaccines.
  • Polyoxidonium- Synthetic polymers and nanomaterials display selective phenotypic effects in cells and in the body that affect signal transduction mechanisms involved in inflammation, differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis. When physically mixed or covalently conjugated with cytotoxic agents, bacterial DNA or antigens, polymers can drastically alter specific genetically controlled responses to these agents.
  • Squalene- An oil based adjuvant that has never been approved in the US as safe, can cause blindness, autoimmune dysfunction and can inhibit sperm production. More than two dozen peer-reviewed scientific papers from ten different laboratories throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Australia have been published documenting the development of autoimmune disease in animals subjected to squalene-based adjuvants. Novartis will make a flu vaccine using MF59 consisting of Squalene, Tween 80 - A recent study (December 2005) discovered that Tween80 can cause anaphylaxis, a sometimes fatal reaction characterized by a sharp drop in blood pressure, hives, and breathing difficulties.
  • Span85 another oil
  • Human Diploid Tissue- organ and tissue from aborted baby tissue is now used in manufacturing many vaccines.
  • Vaccines given in the past have contained H1N1 viruses; this is not a new virus. (novaccine.com)

It all started in Feb, 2009

In the News:

Feb 27, 2009 Toronto Sun, A large consignment of seasonal flu vaccine,

which was circulated to 18 European countries, has been infected with

deadly live avian flu virus. The Company that released contaminated flu

virus material from a plant in Austria, Baxter International, confirmed Friday

that the experimental product contained live H5N1 avian flu viruses. And

an official of the World Health Organization’s European operation said the

body is closely monitoring the investigation into the events that took place

at Baxter International’s research facility in Orth-Donau, Austria.

Back from Canada to get caught up again

After being away in Canada for a month for teaching ministry and family visits, Vi and I are now sorting out all the 'to-do' lists for the coming weeks.
I'm hoping this new blogspot will simplify my compulsion to share good ideas and resources with all our friends around the world. As I learn how to optimize it, I trust it will be a benefit to my friends as a time-saver as well as a source of helpful information. (the photo with our grandkids, Zachary and Alexis, is a year old but I'll get some new ones soon when we visit them in Houston in September).
In the future I plan to create another specialized BlogSpot to link you to valuable online information through summaries on topics of interest to many these days. Life is filled with so many 'niches' of information. Some is "nice to know" while some others are "need to know." I guess it all depends on where we are in life and what our focus happens to be. For now, it seems increasingly important for us all to have a growing confidence about the answer to this question: "What on earth am I here for?"
Yes, I realize that the answer to that question will be different for us all and it changes from time to time along with our personal situations. But in this rapidly changing world of ours, we are all hearing questions about choices and priorities that are becoming more and more difficult. That's why it's vital that we have connections with those who have taken the time to discover answers, solutions, and helpful tips that we might not have considered or even heard about yet.
My desire is to enrich the lives of all who are in contact with me; to help them reach their goals; to help them discover valuable solutions to their situations; and to enable them to become more effective at what they were created to be and do. Enjoying our daily life with contentment is a lifestyle that most everyone desires, but how much more fulfilling it is when we can enhance the lives of others in the process.

Look for more links in the future, but check these out now...
